HR 1388 Bans National Service Participants From Sharing Christ

Following the overwhelming passage of "The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act" by the House of Representatives last week, the U.S. Senate voted 74 to 14 on a procedural move that essentially guarantees that a mandatory national service bill will be passed by the Senate.

"National service" sounds great until you realize exactly what is in this bill. The House version of this bill includes a provision that bans all national service participants from being involved in any form of evangelism.

The "GIVE" Act was passed in the House by a 321-105 margin. You can find the full text of the bill here:

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-1388

Section 125(a)(7) of the House version of the bill prohibits the following:

Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.

So the U.S. government plans to create a massive horde of young people who are serving the United States who will be banned from serving the Lord Jesus Christ and from sharing the gospel with their friends.

Talk about the secularization of American society - a bill which seeks to get countless thousands of young Americans involved in "national service" and which will prohibit them from serving God.

What kind of insanity is this?

The truth is that the economy is a mess, wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and in several other covert locations have stretched the U.S. military beyond the breaking point, and many American cities need to be rebuilt. So now the Obama administration will use the cheap, conscripted labor of young people to get things fixed.

It's called involuntary servitude.

But this is what some in the Obama administration have been eyeing for quite some time.

Barack Obama's new chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, is the coauthor of a book that calls for, among other things, compulsory national service for all Americans between the ages of 18 to 25.

The following quotes are from pages 61-62 of the book Emanuel coauthored in 2006 entitled "The Plan: Big Ideas for America":

It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. ...

Here's how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They'll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we're hit by a natural disaster. These young people will be available to address their communities' most pressing needs.

Now keep in mind that the person who wrote that is going to be the new White House chief of staff.

Wow.

The frightening thing is that it looks like some of Emanuel's ideas are already being implemented by the new administration.

The official website of President-Elect Obama, Change.gov, originally announced that Obama would soon "require" that all students in middle school all the way through college would be forced to participate in community service programs.

Fortunately, the Internet exploded with outrage, and the website's wording was quickly softened.

But before the change, this is what Obama's website said about this program: "Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year."

I think that we have had enough of "Patriot acts" and I know that most young Americans do not want to be part of any kind of a draft.

How many of you would willingly submit to mandatory national service?

What would YOU do if you got drafted into the U.S. military?

The U.S. government is taking more control over our lives than ever before, and still most American seem like they could care less.

  1. I'm a Christian, or should say a born again Child of God. This does not surprise me, nor hinder me, as I do not believe that President Obama, the House, Senate, or anyone else can stop anyone from serving Christ or talking about him. If you truly belong to HIM, you can't discared HIM like a used pair of jeans. No matter what bills pass, it's just what it is--a piece of paper. They allowed prayers to be taken out of the schools, this Country if you'll have it has turned their back on God then wonder why we're in the shape we're in, but, as Christians we have to remember that we can not stop Prophecy. The Bible says when the Lord returns the world will be as it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrhah and we are starting to see these events unfold and have for sometime. Yes it is sad things have come to this, but I'm not shocked by it but Praise God even though this nation was blessed with freedom years ago, one thing as Christians they cannot take away from us is our right to worship. Where do we worship? We assemble ourselves together praying for the souls to accept Christ, such as this person who conjured up this bill, and the ones who voted to pass it. We are still praying for the President even if he allows such bill to pass. We all hope that our world as a whole opens their eyes to the reality of what is to come. The last Gentile to accept Christ, or the last person that God knows will accept him and HE will put an end to this world just as he did in the days of Noah, and they laughed and made fun of him too. My question is this: And no one can seem to answer it. IF THESE PEOPLE WHO TRY AND PASS LAWS TO GET CHRIST OUT OF SCHOOLS, OUT OF EVERYDAY LIFE IN GENERAL REALLY DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD OR HIS SON, CHRIST, THEN WHY DO THEY TRY SO HARD TO FIND A WAY TO DISCOUNT HIM? Did you ever ask yourself that question? That's why I sit back and pray for these folks because they are trying so hard to dispute him, when he is a Loving God and doesn't want anyone to suffer now or in the hereafter. We may see this world go way down before HE returns, but rest assured, when this world is on fire and people running to and fro when he comes, wishing they had accepted him, it'll be to late and the saddest part of the hereafter is that then for them it will be too late.

  2. They are only doing this to try and find another way to dispute God. Isn't that always the case. I'm a Christian and find this story sad, but Expected. You do realize that they can't stop anyone from worshipping or talking about God or Christ, HIS son because we worship from hearts.

  3. Everyone is making such a huge deal about this when it is simply an amendment to legislation from 1973! These service corps have always existed and most everyone has given money or time to United Way... which this is. This bill's revisions are to bring a call to action in a country that is crippled by debt. Serving others such as the elderly, the poor, the disabled is suddenly a crime!

Remember, there IS a separation of church and state in this country! If a non-profit organization wants government funding to help those in need, they CANNOT include religious affiliations and worship on the "clock" (during volunterism)

Uniforms sound bad - but only if you are looking at it from this perspective. They are probably going to have some khaki pants and polo shirts with emblems of the United Way or Red Cross.

People... STOP LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT THERE! Relax! There are MUCH bigger problems that we need to be focusing on in this country!

  4. I believe there is are reasons to be concern to the point of being made aware. I also believe that if one is a Child of God there is no reason for fear dominating the Child of God. I also believe that mankind has taken prophecy way to nonchalant in attitude and will find themselves devastated in the very near future.....just as those that laughed and scorned Noah for building an ark for 120 years....they missed the boat...
